How the Fox and the Hound Broke Asher's Heart

Disney. Everyone loves Disney in some way, shape or form. They've created an empire that captures the essence of what everyone enjoys in a good movie. I have to admit there are many Disney movies that I dislike, but so many more that I absolutely adore. Yes, I let my kids watch Disney...no I don't boycott them. Good for you if you do....but we, as a family...enjoy Disney. But Disney has this thing about their movies...especially their older ones. Someone in the Disney empire decided that the audience should always be struck with sadness at some point in the movie. And today...that sadness struck Asher. The Fox and the Hound. If you've seen it...you understand. I just happened to turn and look at Asher during the moment when the old woman takes Todd (the fox) to release him into the wild to save him from her neighbor, Amos. The music is sad...the characters are sad...the all around moment is tragically sad...and Asher's face said it all. His lower lip was out and quivering and the tears were already welling up in his eyes. I said, "Asher...its okay, buddy. Todd will be fine." He pointed at the tv with a shaky finger and let loose..."No Mommy!! She can't leave the fox there!" Took me a good 5 minutes to get him back to normal...
Sweet Asher. My terror of a child...the one who screams when he doesn't get his way, bites during wrestling matches, opens any bottle or canister he can get his hands on, draws on my white kitchen chairs with markers, climbs on EVERYTHING...has a heart. Especially for animals. The zoo is his favorite place to be besides church with his friends. He looks at every animal and can tell you what every animal is! His bed is so full of stuffed animals that sometimes we can't find him at night in the menagerie on the bed. His favorite thing to watch at Granny Sue's house is any animal show...including the veterinarian shows! All he talked about before Christmas was going to his Papaw's house and feeding the cows. Now granted...when we got there, he wouldn't get within 10 feet of the cows, but he loved them from a distance anyway. Asher is speaking full sentences now which has helped out with his behavior a lot. Now we can understand why he's angry and screaming at his brother! The arguing with his brother has increased due to his vocabulary, but at least he's getting his point across better! He's a fantastic kid with a beautiful imagination. Its been fun watching him grow these past 3 months! He loves his new little brother and tells everyone his name is "Jack Jack." I'm so happy he has adjusted well to being a big brother!

Ranger also loves his "Jack Jack" but has adjusted differently than Ash. Ranger handles the lack of attention by imitating everything Asher does that gets my attention. Its been a little bit of a rough ride for him this past month, but he's slowly starting to understand that he doesn't really want the consequences that come with that kind of behavior. The other day I had told him to play on his own for a little bit while Austin and I cooked dinner. I encouraged him to use his imagination. In his frustration from being "banished" to the playroom...he mumbled something under his breath. He might have gotten away with it, but Daddy's hearing is much better than Mommy's. Austin called him into the kitchen and asked him to repeat what he had said. He did fess up, but unfortunately did so in a snotty manner and said, "Girls talk too much." So Ranger experienced his first (and hopefully only) soapy mouthwash experience from Daddy. He slowly sauntered into the living room to apologize to me...but it was hard for me to focus because of the soap bubbles coming out of his mouth during his apology. A tough lesson learned and a slightly entertaining experience for the parents. To his credit...he has been much more respectful towards me since then.
Ranger is excelling greatly in school and was excited to start his second semester of kindergarten. He's mastered addition and subtraction and is quickly picking up fractions now. His reading is exceptional and he actually reads long books to Asher in the mornings now. Its incredible to watch their friendship grow.

And then there's Jack Jack. The carbon copy of RangerDanger. But for real...they could be twins. Jack made his grand entrance into this world very quickly on November 29, 2017. So quickly in fact...the doctor had to run down the hall to my room and promptly asked me to cross my legs so she could at least gown up for the birth! The nurses ooooed and aaaahed over him after he was born. He was so big. He even surprised the doctor with his 9 lbs 3 oz. He was healthy and strong and we were out of there in less than 48 hours! Granny Sue brought the boys to visit us at the hospital and the boys were in love with Jack Jack! Asher's face was priceless as he held him for the first time! Ranger was a proud brother and informed us that he already knew how to hold a baby since he held Asher as a baby.
We are very grateful that God gave us these three boys. People always tell us we have our hands full...which may be true. But we are happy to have this full house. Its full of squealing and laughter and constant noise. Boys will be boys, but hopefully through a lot of hard work...these boys will grow into strong men with a heart for the Lord. So...to their future wives, bosses, friends, and children....we're trying our best!
